Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! I am Gabriela Valdez and I have the pleasure of teaching 6t h and 7t h grade Social Studies (6t h) , Math, Science, and Theater. I am a graduate of St. Augustine High School. It is a privilege to continue being a part of the Diocese of Laredo and an honor to teach and help shape students’ lives along with their spirituality. I graduated December 2017 from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in General and Special Education. I did various observation hours in San Antonio at Harlandale ISD, Northside ISD, and SAISD. I completed my student teaching with NEISD at Huebner Elementary and Nimitz Middle. I worked for Huebner the semester after graduation as a Paraprofessional.
This year, your child will participate in numerous interactive learning activities that will help them succeed academically. They are expected to learn strategies that emphasize higher-order thinking skills, that will challenge them to aim higher and achieve more. It is my main goal to get all students engaged in the classroom and excited to learn. I want them to progress in all areas but more importantly, I want them to believe in themselves. I have learned that students love learning from teachers who love teaching, which is why I try my best to incorporate everything I have learned and observed into my classroom to make it a positive environment for my students. I believe that working together, with both parents and students, ensures success in the classroom. I encourage you to reach out to me and I look forward to collaborating with you, let’s be a TEAM!
